A Resume That May Be Rejected Before It's Read
On Thursday, October 8, 2026, ProTeam Syria, in collaboration with Bareeq Foundation for Education and Development, organized a free workshop titled “How to Write a Professional ATS-Friendly Resume,” delivered by recruitment specialist Adnan Al-Jabban.
Many job seekers submit their resumes to multiple companies without receiving a response. While they may assume their experience or qualifications are insufficient, the challenge can sometimes begin before their application reaches a recruiter.
Many organizations use Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) to collect, organize, search, and screen job applications. These systems may help employers identify candidates whose qualifications match job requirements.
The workshop began by explaining how these systems work and why preparing a clear, well-structured resume matters.
Formatting Comes Before Content
The workshop explored common resume design and formatting mistakes. Complex tables, multiple columns, icons, and heavily decorated templates may look appealing, but some automated systems can struggle to extract their content accurately or in the intended order.
Participants learned the importance of using simple layouts, clear headings, and well-organized sections to make professional information easier for both software and recruiters to read.
Keywords and Understanding Job Descriptions
The session then focused on analyzing job descriptions and identifying relevant skills, qualifications, and industry-specific keywords.
Participants learned how to incorporate these terms naturally into their resumes while remaining accurate about their actual experience and capabilities.
The goal is not simply to satisfy automated screening criteria, but to communicate genuine professional value to the human recruiter reviewing the application.
From Theory to Practice: Live Resume Reviews
One of the workshop's most valuable elements was its practical approach. Participants shared their own resumes with Adnan Al-Jabban, who reviewed them directly, highlighted formatting and content issues, and suggested improvements.
This interactive exercise allowed attendees to understand how the recommendations applied to their personal resumes rather than relying solely on generic examples.
The central takeaway was clear: an effective resume must communicate successfully with both technology and people.
